Any "Star Wars" fan will recognize this beauty. This is Luke Skywalker's lightsaber from the first "Star Wars" film. It's been 30 years since I first saw "Star Wars" and I haven't been the same since.

This prop is a great example of using found items for new purposes. The basis of this (and other lightsabers) was a vintage camera flash. The body is a Graflex camera flash from one of those great press cameras from the 1950's. To this was added strips of windshield wipers for the grips, a D-ring at the base and the LED magnifying lens from an old calculator along the clamp in the middle. That's it!

And as simple as that was, it still looks cool to this day. This replica was built with a genuine Graflex but the other parts are contemporary recreations. This lightsaber is a favorite of both me and my son.
